How to clean your ears properly?

Cleaning your ears properly is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of personal hygiene. Many people are unaware how to do it correctly. Here are the steps:

1. Gather Supplies

You will need a clean washcloth, a few drops of mineral oil, glycerin, or over-the-counter ear drops designed for earwax removal, and a bulb syringe (optional).

2. Soften the Earwax

Apply a few drops of the chosen solution into the ear canal and let it sit for a few minutes. This will help soften the earwax, making it easier to remove.

3. Tilt and Pull

Tilt your head to the side and gently pull the outer ear upward and backward (for adults) or downward and backward (for children) to straighten the ear canal.

4. Flush with Warm Water (Optional)

If using a bulb syringe, fill it with warm (not hot) water and gently flush the ear canal by squeezing the bulb while tilting your head in the opposite direction. This step should only be done if the earwax is soft and not impacted.

5. Dry the Ear

After flushing or allowing the solution to work, tilt your head to the opposite side and gently pull the outer ear to allow the solution and loosened earwax to drain out. Use a clean washcloth to gently wipe away any excess moisture or wax from the outer ear.

6. Repeat as Needed

If necessary, repeat the process in the other ear or repeat the steps until the ear canal is clear and free of excess earwax. Remember, it is essential to avoid inserting cotton swabs, bobby pins, or other objects into the ear canal, as this can push the earwax deeper and potentially cause injury.

It is important to follow the instructions carefully and consult a healthcare professional if excessive earwax buildup persists or if you experience any discomfort or complications.
